8 Character Password Generator

Generate random 8-character passwords instantly. Cryptographically secure, browser-based, and completely private.

Security note: 8-character passwords are the minimum for basic security. For anything sensitive (banking, email, work), we strongly recommend 12 characters or more.

When is an 8-character password enough?

An 8-character password using all four character types (uppercase, lowercase, digits, symbols) has roughly 52 bits of entropy — the minimum threshold security researchers consider adequate for low-value accounts. At 10 billion guesses per second, it would take about an hour to crack by brute force, but significantly less if the attacker uses dictionary rules or if the service uses a weak hashing algorithm.

8-character passwords are reasonable for: temporary or throwaway accounts, low-security internal systems with additional access controls, situations where the service enforces strict rate limiting on login attempts, or older systems that don't support longer passwords.

For email, banking, social media, work systems, or anything tied to your identity or finances, use at least 12 characters — ideally 16 or more. Our 16-character generator creates passwords that are effectively immune to brute force attacks.
