Best practice: Temporary passwords should be changed on first login. Always instruct users to set a new password immediately after using a temp one.

Generated in your browser. Hyphens are display-only — copied passwords exclude them.

What makes a good temporary password?

Temporary passwords have different design goals than permanent ones. They need to be: readable (someone will type it from an email or hear it over the phone), unambiguous (no characters that look alike — no 0 vs O, no 1 vs l), and short enough to type quickly but still random enough that they can't be guessed.

These generated passwords use a 54-character set that excludes all ambiguous characters. The hyphen separator is visual only — it's excluded when you copy the password, so you can paste it directly into any field.

Each 10-character password from this set has approximately 57 bits of entropy. That's sufficient for a temporary password with a short lifespan — especially combined with a "must change on login" policy.
